The Lowndes High Georgia Bridgemen were victorious at the Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands Competition at Chestatee High School in Gainesville, GA on Saturday, October 3.

After the football game in Warner Robins on Friday night, the band traveled to Atlanta for an overnight stay, and then on to the Northeast Georgia area for the first time to participate in this competition. The Bridgemen competed against 20 other bands from the State of Georgia and walked away as the Grand Champions.

The Georgia Bridgemen received Best in Class awards for Danceline, Percussion and Band; in addition to all superior ratings. The Gene Shadburn Salute to Marching Bands special award was presented to them for the best overall score and the Ronald J. Evans Outstanding Musicianship award for the highest band score to win Grand Championship.

Mr. Jon Bowman, Lowndes Director of Bands says, “30 years of Building the Bridge, the musical history of the Georgia Bridgemen has been very popular with spectators. The show includes songs performed in previous years dating back to 1979 such as Bridge over Troubled Waters, Take it Easy, Get Over it, Harlem Nocturne, In the Stone, Satisfaction and closing with America the Beautiful. We are very proud of our band students and all they have accomplished, the countless hours of hard work definitely paid off”.

After a celebration trip to Six Flags over Georgia, the Georgia Bridgemen band returned home late Sunday evening to a welcoming crowd of family and friends at Lowndes High School. They will travel to Dothan, Alabama on Saturday October 10th to compete in the Southern Showcase.
