Twelve members of the Lowndes FFA Livestock Team traveled to Perry with 15 head of show cattle and 7 breeding ewes in October to exhibit their beef and sheep projects at the 20th Georgia National Fair Junior Live3stock Show.
The Bennett brothers continued their dominance of the Dorset Breeding Ewes Shows with Sam Bennett, Hahira Middle FFA capturing the Grand Champion honors and Ben Bennett, Lowndes High FFA capturing the Reserve Champion award. Ian Bennett, Hahira Middle FFA won his class with his Dorset Ewe.
In the cattle show, Ben Herring, Lowndes Middle FFA, brought home the champion Shorthorn Steer Grand Champion honors. Gage Browning, Lowndes High, placed 4th in class with his Charolais steer, Brittany Rigg, Lowndes High FFA, 4th in class of the Chi-influence steers and 4th and 8th in class with her Simmental Heifers, Colby Ellis- Hahira Middle FFA, placed first in class with his Hereford steer, Sam Herring-Lowndes Middle FFA, placed 4th in class with his Hereford Steer and 4th in class with his Crossbred Steer. Lane Peavy, Lowndes Middle FFA, placed 7th in class with his Crossbred Steer and 8th with his commercial heifer. Also exhibiting were Dustin Johnson of Lowndes High FFA, Conner Ellis of Hahira Middle FFA, and Landon Herring of Lowndes Middle FFA.
The Lowndes Team also captured third place in Division ll of the Beef Herdsman competition. Division ll is for chapter's exhibition 11 or more head of cattle. This competition is based on how the group maintains their stall area in the barn, sportsmanship, wearing team shirts and educational display.
